China is a place of strange contrasts. Take this scene, for example. Notwithstanding the fact that it's rather strange to see a pair of centuries-old pagodas illuminated by fierce modern floodlights, this pair sit in a tranquil park that's surrounded on all sides by modern buildings of the most ugly and blocky kind and by streets filled with cars, trucks and motorbikes. (And this city, Guilin, was among the more pleasant.)

It probably feels considerably more peaceful in the photo than it did in real life. Still, it was pretty...

200th deviation! I'm particularly pleased with this one because no matter how hard I tried in Photoshop, I couldn't find a way to improve it - so what's up here is what came out of the camera, minus a couple of specks of dust.
