EDIT: better late than never...here's an updated version - see below for details.

Another day, another deviation...and another "is it a landscape, or a waterscape?" dilemma. The number of times I've been through that one...

No matter. This, as the title indicates, is Kananaskis in Alberta, Canada. I was over in Canada this summer for my friend Bryony's wedding and the new bride and groom took me out to this stunning place.

It's pretty isolated and unspoiled. The road through the area is closed for about six months over winter to allow the animals living in the area to cross - and perhaps because keeping it clear of snow would be a bit of a hassle. I think the Trans-Canada must be enough trouble as it is!

This shot was, as usual, taken on my (t)rusty D70s. Minor curves adjustments in PS, and I've added a gradient to the sky. Hope you like it!

EDIT: First of all, thank you all for the Daily Deviation. I was totally blown away to receive it. I've tried to respond to all your kind comments and :+fav:s, but if I've missed you out I'm absentminded, not ungrateful.

This update attempts to correct a problem that one of the earliest commentators spotted, but which I initially wrote off - that the image appeared skewed, even though the water's edge was straight in Photoshop. However, thanks to extremely helpful fellow deviant Veritas-Visum I can confirm that the effect is real - and it's called the Keystone Effect. In his words:

"This optical illusion is caused by the triangular shape created by the decaying mountains as well as the trees on the waterline and their reflection in the water."

However, thanks to magic of Photoshop, this annoyance can be solved! As I have attempted to do here, using Vertias-Visum's instructions and helpfully-provided example photo. I've also tried to sharpen the mountains at the rear of the image and have darkened the sky ever so slightly. I hope you like the changes!

This is really nice. Vivid colors, clear reflection, symmetry, it has it all. Excellent job

Thank you. The only nit-pick I have with it myself is that it's not sharp all the way down the tree-line. I guess I should've used a higher f-number, but I was already at f16...

Gorgeous photo!! The color is lovely and I like the gradient that you added to the sky. The only thing I would think of next time is the sharpness of the trees as you get to the middle-and onto the right-of the photo, and then lighten up a just a little bit. :-D
