Another shot of Machu Picchu, this time showing the steep drop-offs on either side of the ridge - which makes it a true fastness (a word that's sadly underused).

For me, it's not just the quality of the stonework of the preservation of the site that makes Machu Picchu impressive, it's the extremely challenging environment in which it was built. To think that it was constructed without the aid of wheels or pulleys boggles the mind.
