You were wondering where I've been? (You weren't?  Oh, OK...) Anyway, I'm still alive and well.  Which is good to hear, especially for me.  Work is busy enough that I don't shoot as much as I'd like, and I seem to edit even less.  I must get better at that.  (I won't, but it's good to maintain a few hopeless dreams.) On the extremely positive side, however, I have finally bitten the bullet - and possibly more, financially, than I can chew - by buying a new camera to replace my slightly long-in-the-tooth D70s.  So next week a shiny box bearing my new D7000 will, I hope, arrive... :)  If it's not one hundred times better, as its name suggests

Well, I tried this in 2008 and didn't get round to finishing it, but I thought I'd write another missive for the blog about my favourite music released in the year that's now rapidly receding into the distance. To be honest it wasn't a vintage year from my point of view: a lot of the bands that I like the most were dormant, and the new trends that came around weren't really to my taste (e.g. all this lo-fi, buzzy indie-rock) or seemed pretty narrow in their sonic scope (e.g. the 80s-baiting 'glo-fi' bands). Nonetheless some interesting and enjoyable records were of course released in 2009. Here are my picks. --- Animal Collective – Mer

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my watchers and other visitors (it seems that even without a job I can't keep up with dA!). I hope you all had a good one; mine was quiet, but very pleasant for being unexpected – I was, after all, supposed to be in Buenos Aires at this point. In that sense I suppose there's a silver lining to be drawn from my grandfather's death, although it seems a little obscene to be suggesting such things. Of course the weather here is still quite a change from Argentina, and from usual winter fare – SNOW! And lots of it; I had to shovel about 75 cubic feet of the stuff off the driveway befor
